Mitchell obtained his B.Sc. in Agriculture (2009) majoring in aquaculture and minoring in Agricultural Business from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. His research, while at the NSAC, focused on optimizing growth of a marine heterotrophic microalgae. He joined the AVCLSC in September of 2009 as a M.Sc. student, under the supervision of Dr. Spencer Greenwood, working on the Lobster Moult & Quality project focusing on gene expression in reproductive females.
