Jessica Willis was born and raised on PEI, and has obtained her BSc in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Prince Edward Island. Her thesis involved the development of a molecular tool for the detection of an invasive tunicate, for which PEI is currently at high risk of invasion. She is currently examining the use of molecular assays for the detection of the causative agent of bitter crab disease under the supervision of Drs. Spencer Greenwood and Rick Cawthorn. She then plans to begin her MSc in September of 2010 under the supervision of Drs. Spencer Greenwood and Carol McClure. This project will focus on examining potential transmission mechanisms of Cryptosporidium species and Giardia from shellfish to humans on PEI.
