Activity 1 - INFECTIOUS DISEASES & HOST RESPONSE in AMERICAN LOBSTERS
- Identify pathogenic features of microorganisms causing disease in lobsters;
- Identify components of host defence which respond to these challenges;
Activity 2 - POTENTIAL SIGNIFICANCE of the DISEASE "PARAMOEBIASIS" to CANADIAN LOBSTERS
- Identify species of Paramoeba infecting lobsters using molecular tools;
- Reproduce paramoebiasis in lobsters and fulfill Koch's postulates;
- Determine pathogenesis & host range of Paramoeba sp.;
- Develop diagnostic tools for detection;
- Minimize impact of Paramoeba-infections on lobster fishery;
- Develop surveillance methods to monitor health of lobsters imported into Canada; &
- Develop surveillance programs to monitor lobster health in Canadian waters.

In the LobsterNET database, the Online Lobster Inventory System. Companies contributing to this project are supplying total storage capacity at the time of sign-up, while current inventory levels are collected weekly.
- Provide access to up-to-date information to optimize processing, production & marketing;
- Parallel the successful functions of APHIN™ in other livestock industries;
- Provide an information service to the lobster industry including benefits realized by other commodities utilising APHIN™;
- Facilitate research planning by Canadian scientists & the lobster industry.
